How this site handles data

Short version: there are no tracking cookies, no consent banner, and no advertising trackers. The only data I collect is anonymous, and the only thing stored in your browser is your own preferences. Here is the detail.

Analytics

Traffic is measured with Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Both are cookieless — they set no cookies and don't fingerprint or follow you across sites, which is why you'll never see a cookie banner here. They record:

  • Anonymous page views.
  • Core Web Vitals (real-world load and responsiveness numbers).
  • A few anonymous custom events — theme changes, poll votes, and contact-form submissions — so I can tell which parts of the site get used.

None of this is tied to your identity.

Browser storage

To remember how you like the site set up, I store a few preference values in your browser's localStorage and sessionStorage. These never leave your device and contain no personal data:

  • kk-theme — your chosen colour theme.
  • kk-annotations — whether inline annotations are shown.
  • kk-nav-position — your mobile nav-bar position.
  • kk-poll-* — records that you've voted in a poll, so it isn't counted twice.
  • kk-annot-hint — that you've seen the one-time annotations hint.
  • kk-motion — your motion preference (sessionStorage; resets each visit).

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of these.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form, the name, email, and message you type are emailed straight to me. They aren't saved to a database — I just get the email and reply to it.
